Bringing The Rainforest to London

To Inspire Generations

Climate change can feel like something that’s happening a very long way away. Especially when you live in London. But in reality, climate change affects us all, wherever we are. One of the main causes? Deforestation.

Around the world, 14,480 trees are destroyed every minute. It’s almost impossible to imagine destruction on such a massive scale, but it’s happening and we all need to come together and do something about it.

At Unilever, we want to raise awareness of this problem, how it affects us all and show you what you can do to help us make a difference. Unilever and WWF are working together to help protect 1 million trees in two of the world’s most threatened rainforest areas, Brazil and Indonesia.

We can’t take everyone out to the rainforest to show the daily destruction that takes place, so we decided instead to bring the rainforest to London by creating a one-day-only virtual reality forest on the South Bank. People’s eyes were opened to just how threatened the rainforest is, and were invited to take action to help end deforestation.

Over 1,200 people experienced the 360 degree virtual reality view of the rainforest, before walking down our 46 metre rainforest walkway. They were able to experience an immersive glimpse of the rainforest environment, understand why it’s so important we look after it, and what they can do to help protect it.

It’s safe to say everyone had fun while they learned. But if you couldn’t make it down on the day don’t worry, you can still do your bit!

- Sign our pledge to show your support for protecting the world’s rainforests.

- Want to show our government that you believe action needs to be taken on climate change? Why not join the People's Climate Change March in central London on November 29th?

- Care about trees in London and want to get involved in tree planting? We're working with the Mayor of London to show everyone just how important London’s urban forests are. ‘For the Love of Trees – London’ will help get 40,000 trees planted across London to enhance neighbourhoods and schools. Our first mass tree planting event takes place on November 22nd in Ealing. Find out all about it by clicking here.

Together, we can help create a bright future for our children and for generations to come.
